In terms of national policy, the sleepy Green Bay metro area of Northeast Wisconsin’s dubious claim to fame is its disgraced former Congressman, Mike Gallagher, who is mostly known for whining about the January 6th peaceful protesters despite not being in the Capitol building at the time. He also resigned just late enough to not trigger a timely special election and, therefore, further slimming the nearly nonexistent Republican majority in the House of Representatives, right after voting against the impeachment of DHS Secretary Alexandro Mayorkas, who has failed to secure the border in every regard.

In the wake of this political void, three contenders have decided to toss their hats into the Republican primary arena. On the RINO end of the spectrum is former lieutenant gubernatorial candidate Roger Roth, who also spent many years in Wisconsin’s state legislature. Endorsed by former Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, who ran against Trump in 2016, Roth has lied through his teeth about being a “Trump Conservative” in one of his recent political ads, as President Trump has given his endorsement in this race to businessman Tony Wied and went as far as to call Roth a RINO.

Further along the spectrum is another longtime occupant of the Wisconsin State Legislator, Andre Jacque. In addition to being unsuitable for the position based on his lack of physical discipline and care for appearances, Jacque has allowed himself to die on many ineffectual hills, rendering his decade-long career in the state house an almost complete waste of time. This complete lack of practicality, however noble it might seem sometimes, is simply unproductive and irrelevant given the dire circumstances this country currently finds itself in.

One particular waste of taxpayer-funded time has been his commitment to stopping IVF. Although he supports the Catholic and conservative anti-IVF position, the problem is that he has been authoring and pushing legislation on the issue since 2013, with no progress on the issue. Although more social conservatism is needed in the House, it needs to be spearheaded by competent representatives who have proven they can get things done.

On the other end of this spectrum is an outsider who has been endorsed by Charlie Kirk and even President Trump himself: Tony Wied. A local businessman who owned a chain of gas stations with an iconic dinosaur statue by their entrances, Wied sold his business a couple of years ago and felt a sense of duty to run for the congressional seat once Gallagher made it clear that he would take the coward’s way out.

Due to his business acumen, the father of four dashing sons is financing his campaign entirely from small personal donations and his own accumulated wealth. He has thereby completely disabused himself of being beholden to any special interests.

On policy, Wied, for example, supports being completely hands-off when it comes to the cryptocurrency question. Earlier this summer, he said that he believes that an unregulated cryptocurrency space can serve as a refuge for those looking to escape government tyranny, whether they be stateside or abroad. This is in contrast to most members of the House who don’t even understand what cryptocurrencies are, much less understand the intricacies and the requirement that they remain independent from the government to remain an effective tool.

Indeed, the entirety of Tony Wied’s campaign seems to carry with it more than a whiff of fresh air. In addition to the lack of monied interests bankrolling the campaign, the brass of the campaign itself is devoid of ideologically rigid geriatrics. Fortunately for Mr. Wied, Republican voters in the Northwoods of Wisconsin take President Trump's endorsements seriously and in a very positive way. Even more fortunately for the Trump-endorsed businessman, Mr. Wied also faces the prospect of having a very friendly neighbor and colleague in Congressman Tom Tiffany, whose 7th district covers the rest of Northern Wisconsin.

One very important and overlooked trait that Tony Wied has that his opponents do not is the simple fact that he has taken very good care of himself during his nearly half a century of life. In an age of increasing obesity rates with no end in sight, having a mature, but not too old, individual running for office who is in better shape than most men half his age will undoubtedly serve as a good example for the youth to follow.

The primary for the race is set to take place on Tuesday, August 13. Fortunately for the eventual winner, the 8th Congressional District of Wisconsin is considered a fairly safe Republican district, so much so that Democrats fail to even field a candidate during some election cycles.

With an increasing number of outsiders entering Republican electoral fields with each passing election cycle, only time will tell if this tide will turn into a tsunami that will wash the country clean of revolving-door establishment filth. In the meantime, conservatives can hope for candidates like Tony Wied, who swear off monied interests and will bring a fresh perspective to the Republican party.
